Windows 8 Developer Preview

Still really confused on how this OS will work. I am hoping that windows 8 allows me to have some like a ARM tablet running a full version of windows....I want to be able to load my old windows apps (like Zsnes for example) on there and go to town.

I am not sure if it being on ARM changes the way Apps have to be written, but what if windows 8 is on an x86 processor?

Is there no longer the regular desktop? I have heard that it is merely an "app" running on the metro UI.

So confusing.
Microsoft is redesigning the operating system to also work on ARM/x86 processors. So I'm sure the differences would be minimal at best.

Is there a program that allows to boot directly from an ISO file on the hard drive?
I don't want to burn DVDs or create bootable flash drives when I already have the ISO file, sounds redundant and utterly unnecessary for beta releases.

how is it unnecessary?

Windows 7 you had to do DVD or USB... couldn't upgrade from say XP....

Windows USB / DVD tool couldn't be any easier, otherwise enjoy your ISO as it sits on your harddrive doing nothing.

could try to mount it and try to run it, see if it will do an upgrade install...

Dude, turn off your computer, throw it away and never and i mean NEVER touch a computer again.

There is a regular desktop, nothing has changed there. The App is the start screen. its nothing special, its not that big of a pain in the ass. if you spend a bunch of time on it where you need to be concerned with it then you are a retard and shouldn't be allowed on a computer. Same goes for the people above bitching about it. during the 10 - 12 hours I've played with it so far I've spent maybe 10 minutes on that screen and 7 of that was me seeing what could be done with customizing stuff on it. If you live in your start menu on your computer then you really need to stop using one.

Programs that you have now that were wrote for a x86 processor will not work on a ARM based system. programs will have to be recompiled. Just like how for Linux they have different versions of programs for different cpus and just how your 64-bit apps won't run under a 32-bit os.

Got my problem fixed on my laptop :) installing the duo sense driver wasn't enough. Had to run another program that installed drivers for a few more parts. can't use the multitouch commands, but being able to click on stuff and have it pick that up is enough for now.

To say the least Windows 8 is speedy functional and impressive, except, that it tried to stop me using IE then I just uninstalled it.

Hi, I have the same setup (Dell Studio 17) as you. What additional program did you use after installing the Duo Sense driver? Which Duo Sense driver did you install?
