Hi i'm new here so I hope this the right part of the forum to post this problem.
I have a asrock P67 extreme6 MB, K7 2600k processor, Radeon HD 6900 video with 8g RAM
The report comes back that this hardware setup is not compatable with Windows 8 64bit,I am running Win 7 pro 64bit.
Can anyone shed any light on why this may be so.
p.s. NX is turned on in BIOS
Thanks

What "report"?

There's no reason your PC shouldn't work with Win8.

you probably talk about the report of the Upgrade Assistant ? , if so you have to give us more detail, it's probably not the hardware but some software not compatible with the upgrade.

The report from Win upgrade assistant comes up with "Secure boot isn't compatable". When trying to install Win 8 it goes through the install process, and then reports hardware incompatbility reverting to previous version

With that older motherboard you will need to check if the BIOS version that you are using on that mobo is up to date. Windows 8 installs can fail on systems with older BIOS versions.

Sorry I've been away, please donn't think me rude for not replying sooner. I have installed the latest BIOS update plus all the updates on the Aopen site but the problem is still there.
Win 8 upgrade still reports NX not compatable or installed, but in bios it shows as being installed! Am I looking at another motherboard or processor? Thanks in advance.

I believe that has to do with UEFI booting, which really isn't a big deal if the board doesn't support it. You'll be ok

Further, Secure Boot is NOT a requirement with Windows 8 - if it were, my own install would not have been possible.

yeah, it's weird that your install is failing, i've installed 8 on older Core2Duo systems and it works out just fine. can you maybe take a picture of the error you are getting and upload to a site like imgur.com and link it here?

First the snarky comment of, It sounds like it's trying tgo protect you from making a bad call, Installing Windows 8.

Secondly, it sounds like SecureBoot is enabled (Bios setting?) and should be disabled allowing Windows Install to not try to think it has to do it?
