Windows 8 Boot Issues

Gentlemen,

I have a question, that I really never thought I would ask.

Just installed windows 8. Works good, but I am having boot issues, when I reboot It says there was an I/O exception and it will not boot. If I put the windows 8 disk and do a repair it will load windows just fine. But then after a reboot it screws up on the boot screen again.

I looked at the partitions, I have a 350MB and a 121gb partition on my SSD. Does anyone know what that 350mb partition is? it looks like its windows tools. And the 121gb is obviously my install.

So I am thinking that either the SSD is giving problems, or maybe the boot.ini is screwy.

Anybody experience anything like this, sorry for the brief description, it is early in the morning.

Just some information on Windows 8 and Boot.ini -- it doesn't exist anymore. This article spells it out pretty good. Basically, NTLDR and Boot.ini went away with WinXP/2003. Windows 2008/Vista introduced a new bootloader that you can configure using bcdedit.

That small partition is the windows recovery partition. I believe it serves some other purposes as well, but it's normal if you install Windows 8 into unpartitioned space.

Ok, well here are the steps I took again today.

Wipedrived it.
Re-installed windows 8 on the drive (it created a 350MB Partition, and the rest of the drive was partitioned out for windows)
If I do a software reboot it works fine and comes up after the install.
Once it is shuts down completely and powered back up it won't find the windows 8 drive, I get a NTldr error.

Almost like the drive looses the info when it is powered down, Its a crucial SSD, ever hear of this?

Also, I used a live cd with a command prompt. and C:/ is empty where as d:/ has all the window files. WTF am i doing wrong.

I have had this happen on a work system that used a weird motherboard. Down in the bios somewhere there was a setting to set the boot order in like two places. In second, and least intuitive place, it was messed up and kept trying to boot from the non boot drive. Once I set this correctly and saved, it worked fine from there on out. What board are you using now, and what are the rest of the system components?
