I've got a Alienware m17x R4 /w i7 3820 CPU (Intel HD 4000 Graphics) and AMD 7970 Dedicated card.


I'm just wondering if anyone else is having issues getting the switchable graphics to load.

Installed the Windows 8 Pro RTM via my technet.


Installed the 12.8 for Windows 8, installed the 15.28 intel drivers, Tried to the disable each card trick to get them installed and upon re-enabling them the AMD card shows no hardware for the AMD driver, and the intel is all that runs. This is driving me crazy.


SO I'm just wondering if anyone else has figured out a trick for this yet?
 
I am having the same problem with an Acer 7750g w/ 7670m. My problems follow the OP to a T.
 
I'm still on release preview but I'm getting the exact same problem. I think the only workaround for now is manually setting the dedicated GPU as active in the BIOS. Hopefully come launch, AMD'll have this fixed.
 
Unfortunately on my model, there is no way to set the AMD card as the dedicated GPU. Hopefully AMD will someday take responsibility for their own product and support it like Nvidia does with its Optimus technology.
 
HP Touchsmart TM2 here (Intel integrated + Radeon HD 5450)

Got switchable graphics working by installing the Windows 7 driver from HP's website, then upgrading to the latest Windows 8 driver from AMD. Everything works as expected (can switch cards manually or automatically when plugged in / unplugged).
 
What is the date of the official HP driver? The official one for me is from June/July of last year and released in January of this year. Tried and it just gives me a botched install. Maybe I should get away from Acer next time, their support has been very bad for this laptop.
 
Two things...

1. Make sure the .NET Framework 3.5 is installed BEFORE installing AMD video drivers.
2. If installing an old Windows 7 driver, activate Windows 7 compatibility mode on the installer executable.

Should help, I know the Windows 7 drivers from HP failed to install without both of the above precautions :)
