Hey all,

My desktop started going BSOD on me two days ago. It did it randomly. After it restarted, its been running for about 10 minutes, then blue screen and has been consistent ever since. I tried a system restore, Malwarebytes scan, avast scan, updated nvidia drivers... It will run longer in safe mode, but does eventually blue screen there as well. Any ideas would be great. Trying to avoid a wipe and reinstall.

Here is the dump analysis from WhoCrashed:

Conclusion
19 crash dumps have been found and analyzed. Only 10 are included in this report. 2 third party drivers have been identified to be causing system crashes on your computer. It is strongly suggested that you check for updates for these drivers on their company websites. Click on the links below to search with Google for updates for these drivers:

nvlddmkm.sys (NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 331.65 , NVIDIA Corporation)
amdsata.sys (AHCI 1.2 Device Driver, Advanced Micro Devices)

If no updates for these drivers are available, try searching with Google on the names of these drivers in combination the errors that have been reported for these drivers and include the brand and model name of your computer as well in the query. This often yields interesting results from discussions from users who have been experiencing similar problems.

Read the topic general suggestions for troubleshooting system crashes for more information.

Note that it's not always possible to state with certainty whether a reported driver is actually responsible for crashing your system or that the root cause is in another module. Nonetheless it's suggested you look for updates for the products that these drivers belong to and regularly visit Windows update or enable automatic updates for Windows. In case a piece of malfunctioning hardware is causing trouble, a search with Google on the bug check errors together with the model name and brand of your computer may help you investigate this further.

overclocking at all?
possibly bad RAM... try taking out all but 1 stick and if it runs fine for a while, swap that stick for another.

alternatively may just try running memtest. I don't know how well the Microsoft one works, but iirc there is a memory tester when booting off the Win7 disc and selecting repair and advanced I think.

edit: nvm. Looks like those BSODs are definitely a driver issue.

Link may be for Server 2012, but would also apply to Win8.1

No overclocking. Everything is running at stock speed. I'd read that it could be related to the AHCI driver, to which I cannot find an update for Windows 8.1. However, this computer has been running 8.1 since it came out with no issues until the other day. I'll keep digging. Any other ideas would be great. Thanks.

You blocked an NSA surveillance process ;)

In all seriousness, if it's a driver issue, I would suggest uninstalling the drivers you think may be causing the issue, and then allowing Windows to self-reinstall it.

Often driver problems occur when you let Windows update install drivers instead of using the proper ones. This might be the culprit in the OPs case too.
