During the past few months, my Win7 (32bit ultimate) has been taking longer and longer to start up. Isn't Win7 supposed to have some tools to monitor what is slowing down your startup? Is there a 3rd party app that can do that?

Appreciate any help.

Thanks.

Try to scan for malicious programs.
Open MSCONFIG (Microsoft System Configuration Utility) via "Run" command
and disable start-up programs that you don't need.
In case you have lots of start-up programs, that could be the major cause for this problem.

Here is link for some nice guide that can guide you step-by-step with the MSCONFIG tool:

And like I said before - be sure that you are clean from malicious programs.
Run scans in safe-mode with these software's:
"Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware" + Anti Virus + "HijackThis".

You can download Malwarebytes' here:

You can download HijackThis here:

And you can analyze your scan results with the help of this site:

Try Step 1 of the above article. If you boot faster when Step 1 is applied, then it could be one of the Start Up items that is causing the slow down. A word of caution though the procedure above also disables anti-virus software as well as any other security software.

I'd suggest a couple of passes of CCleaner with everything checked, minus the clean free space option, the restart and let the computer idle for like 30 minutes, then reboot again and see if it boots faster.

I have installed alot of crap like daemon tools, eraser and others. Thanks for the tips, I'll give them a go.
