Windows 7 pauses on startup

I just built a new computer (will list items below) and installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 pro, and I have run into a rather strange problem. Every time I boot up the machine it gets to the first windows screen where it says "Starting Windows" and has the animated windows logo in the middle. Then my USB devices flash once, and this screen sits here for around 2 full minutes doing nothing. There is zero hard drive activity as far as I can tell. Then after those 2 minutes, I can hear the hard drive kick in and within 10 seconds I am at the windows desktop. Everything works flawlessly from here on out, but it is really annoying to have to wait that extended time to boot. The time it takes to get passed this screen seems to vary as well, I didn't time it but there was a time it took at least 5 minutes to progress.

Has anyone heard of this happening before? I googled it and found a few people that seem to have similar problems but no real solutions. I would appreciate any help.

you've installed your chipset drivers, right? and maybe try unplugging your usb devices and see if that fixes the issue... just a thought since the stop occurs when the usb appears to initialize.
 
does Event Viewer report anything happening at the time of the issue?
 
First off thanks for your suggestions.

Just to make sure I installed the chipset drivers again from Intel's site, unfortunately no change in boot time. I also tried disconnecting every USB device, my floppy drive, and took my sound card and one of my video cards out. No change.

I have looked through the event viewer and see no errors or warnings during boot. I am at a real loss here.

Next thing I will try is disconnecting everything and only leaving 1 of my ram sticks in, but I am not to hopeful.

Any other suggestions?
 
Alright, I feel pretty stupid now.....Plug and Play OS was disabled in the BIOS!!!! Still a little unsure why this would be set to disabled by default but oh well, problem solved. Thanks for your help anyway.
 
You should throw your floppy drive in the trash unless you really need it. I haven't used one in years. Legacy devices are usually Achilles heels for modern computers and OSes.
