Windows 7: Missing CD-ROM driver?

A few weeks ago I installed Windows 7 on my nephew's laptop (HP Compaq NC2400) when I booted the Windows 7 disc from the DVD drive it got passed the welcome screen and then said the CD-ROM driver was missing, yet the system booted and I could even browse the DVD for the missing driver without a problem. I ended up copying the same Windows disc to a hard drive and installing from USB.

Now I am trying to install Windows 7 on a desktop PC (Foxconn 775 barebone w/ ITX motherboard) and I am running into the same issue. I am not even using the same Windows disc.

Is there any way to bypass this, since obviously the DVD drive is working fine?
 
Hmm, maybe you can burning a new copy of windows 7 at a slower speed if it's not a retail/oem copy. Couldn't you just install from a usb key again?
 
I had that same error when I installed. It was misleading.
I had to install my raid drivers for my mobo to get past it.
I know, that doesn't sound like the same thing, but i swear I had that same error and that's what fixed it
 
I don't know if it was the disc, the fact that it was 32 bit or didn't have SP1 on it, but I got the 64-bit download from the other thread and it worked as expected.
 
This happened to me too when installing Windows 7, I found out the disc had a huge nice gash in it. Obtain a new disc/burn a new copy of Windows 7.
