Has ATi/AMD said anything about pushing out drivers for older Radeons or are they just going to let MS handle it?

How old of a card are you talking about?

Cards as old as the Radeon 9700 are supported via the Catalyst 9.3 drivers (including 64-bit drivers that work with Windows 7).

Presumably they will continue to be supported in some future releases, just not every month anymore.

Well, in my case, not very old. I've got a laptop with a Radeon Xpress 1150; the laptop itself is about 2 years old. On Vista, it's been moved to 'Legacy' driver status and that's fine, I don't need official drivers every month. I'm just curious if ATI is going to just leave it at that or will they at least put out a new (even if it's qualified as Legacy) driver for systems running Win7.

No, they will give you support for the product until it is officially dropped from support (usually 10+ years later)

i dont know about 10 years...

i had that AMD 9100IGP chipset in an old shuttle i had and there was not nor will there ever be apparently a Vista driver for the RS300 onboard video...sure, Vista had a core chipset driver for it, but anything other than the core chipset is unsupported

and it only came out in 03-04, here we are 4 short years later....no support for the latest supported operating system, last supported operating system is all but dead

tried Windows 7 too...and no surprise, no drivers, thanks AMD for leaving me hanging....

had to use XP or Ubuntu for full support

The 9100 IGP came out in 04, yes, but it was based on the R200 which came out in 2001, the same generation as the 8500. Its a DirectX 8.1 card.

I'm sorry you still have a DX 8.1 card, but its time to move on man - let that ancient tech die ;)
