Windows 7 Input Latency! Help!

Hi all,

I am rocking a custom computer (specs below). I recently bought a new soundblaster card after my Audigy 2Zs crapped out ( upgraded to Recon3d PCIe). When I plug into my new card's line-in with a mic (or using a USB mixer), the quality of my mic or instrument is solid, but there is about a half second delay. I have tried nearly everything to fix this latency issue.

1. Reinstalled drivers
2. Performed multiple searches on the internet and [H] forum.
3. Turned off Windows 7 auto driver installation and downloading most current drivers off Creative website.

I am officially stumped and desperate to fix this! I fancy myself very proficient with computers, and this is one of the things I just can't do on my own. I have yet to hear back from Creative, although I am thinking this is a 7 issue, as many people have complained about this with different sound cards (and no real fixes).

Thoughts?!?!
 
Have you tried disabling the onboard in the bios? Have you tried a different PCI-E slot?
 
I have disabled the audio on the board, but I haven't tried a different slot. I'll do that!
 
UPDATE: I tried switching the sound card to different PCIe slots. It sounds a bit better, but the latency is still such that I can't do much. Any other thoughts?
 
Are you sure the latency is coming from the card and not the speakers? Do you have a set of headphones you can plug in and try?
 
Thanks for the reply. I just tried plugging my headset into the soundcard directly. Latency still exists. I'm thinking I should return it? Maybe it is a faulty card?

EDIT: I also tried a clean wipe of my HDD, reinstalling 7 and everything. No luck.
 
Is it possible that my motherboard (5 years old) is the culprit here?

Anyone else's thoughts?
 
Yeah. They are pretty much worthless lol. The told me it was normal to have latency. I told them not half a second to a full second!
 
Creative is notorious for terrible terrible drivers. If you are still within a return period I would just do that, you're probably not going to get much help from Creative.
 
Snarky comments aside, I returned the creative card for the Asus Xonar DX, which received many favorable reviews. The problem still persists, even on a computer wipe, so it certainly wasn't the Soundblaster's fault!

Any other ideas or is this more of a Windows 7 software post at this point?
 
Considering a have zero latency issues in 7 (and it's not a known consistent issue or anything like that) your motherboard seems the next most likely suspect.
 
Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. Now to convince the fiancee to let me sink a few hundred into an all new rig :)

Bofore you go out and buy a new setup just to get rid of the latency, you might want to try a few things first.

1. Make sure you are running the Latest BIOS for your motherboard
2. Make sure you are running the latest chipset drivers for your motherboard. The latest Intel chipset drivers are 9.3.0.1020 - you can download them from Intel via the link for the
Z77 based boards. It will most likely only update your SATA controller driver. You will need to get the ipmx2 folder that unzips during the install, copy it to your desktop and them manually update anything that says Intel in your Device manager.. pointing it to that folder.

3. See if there is a PCI or PCIe latency setting in your BIOS. Upping that might help
4. See if there is a PCIe payload size setting in your BIOS. Setting that up might help.

5. Try disabling Core Parking. A lot of people who use audio creation software do this as it is known to reduce input latency.
