I just did a fresh install of Windows 7. I downloaded all of the drivers for my motherboard (MSI 880G-E45) and installed them (Chipset / Audio / LAN). Everything installed fine. However, when i boot into Windows 7, there is no internet access (Message = Network 2 No Internet access). I have to manually unplug and replug in my ethernet cable before it works (Message = Network Internet Access). It seems on startup it defaults to Network 2 which is incorrect, but when I reset the Network cable it correctly goes back to Network. Not sure why that even makes a difference /shrug. Also, there are no issues with the Network Adapter in Device Manager.

I did not have this problem the first time I installed Windows (had to re-install, different issue) until after I installed the chipset drivers (I installed the LAN drivers first and they worked well).

There seems to be an issue with this motherboard as this is not the first time i recall experiencing this issue on a fresh install of Windows. A couple of years ago I remember having this very problem and in fact I think it's what stalled me finishing and using this computer as the issue was very annoying. I even bought a separate NIC to bypass the on-board one, but i believe i had the same issues (though the details are hazy).

Again - this is a fresh install. There is no Bonjour software (a fix that others in this situation have had). Also i went into the BIOS and couldn't find any settings there that seemed to be affecting the LAN, so i just clicked to install the optimized defaults and left it at that.

I have completely uninstalled and re-installed the drivers multiple times. I'm considering just re-installing Windows again and just not installing the Chipset drivers, but not sure what other issues that might cause. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks so much!

My System:
AMD Phenom II X4 840
MSI 880G-E45
Kingston SSDNow 300V 120gb SSD (brand new)
4x4GB 1333 RAM
ATI Diamond 6950x2 (single card)
OCZ500SXS 500w PSU

On my AM3 gigabyte board I had the problem using the drivers from realtek instead used the windows default ones to bypass this problem..

This is a throwback to the AGP days, but I've always found it's a best to install the chipset drivers, in your case for the AMD 880G/SB710, immediately after the OS. Then finish up with whatever else you have. (Audio, LAN, etc.)

I hate to recommend you install from scratch yet again, but this is how I would handle it. I have to maintain several systems on the job, and about half are using AMD chipsets. Aside from the occasional flakey RealTek-based PHY, this process has worked well for me. Wish I could offer more on the matter.

Thanks Pieter - tried that but same result.

Thanks ROS - but actually that was how i handled it the last time i installed from scratch - same problems. I then re-installed windows for the fourth time and didn't install the chipset drivers at all - still having the same problem.

I then uninstalled the on-board NIC completely and installed a PCI NIC that i had. Same issues. It was fine until i installed the AMD Graphics drivers - then i had the same issues. It seems like there's some setting somewhere that's doing this built into AMD software, but i have no idea.

Getting fairly frustrated.

look for some crap called AppEX for networks accelerator in your network properties for your nic
i had huge problems with a lenovo G505s laptop and that software that the AMD chipset drivers installed once, since i removed it i got my wireless and wired network speeds to finally work

if i remember right it installed in the network properties right under Client for Microsoft networks (in the protocols for your net card)
took me a few weeks to track it down

and it kept reinstalling with my Video drivers and chipset driver updates, until i removed it..when i did connect i was getting horrible speeds of like 2 meg a second , and half the time i had a yellow flag loading in my taskbar saying i was not connected to the internet

SOF - that sounds great! I just have no clue how to find this and how to get rid of it if i do. Do you have any tips? when i found Client for Microsoft Networks, AppEX was not listed underneath it.

if its not there then it didn't install and i have no idea where your problem may be , was hoping it was as simple as the fix i posted for you .. i know that AppEx stuff really was a frustration find and get rid of

have you tried to update the system bios ?

If you install through AMD catalyst (now crimson) you can run the installer again and uninstall that way .

The other thing is to disable the network device in windows and reboot see if it behaves differently (enable after reboot).
check if safe mode with network enabled works.

You installed separate chipset drivers for AMD hardware and install videocard drivers as well ?
You should skip the chipset drivers (both are doing the same thing)....

Thanks for the ideas Pieter! i'll get on those next time i have some time on the computer (prolly tonight)

Ok - here's what has happened.

I booted into safe mode with networking three times and had internet access every time with no issues at all. It was perfect. But the problem still persists in normal Windows mode.

I tried disabling / rebooting / enabling / rebooting. Upon the final reboot the problem was still around.

I have no clue how to uninstall all of the AMD stuff while still having my video driver that i need.

NOTE: When i disable and re-enable in windows it causes the connection to work.

Try uninstalling all of the AMD graphics drivers/software, reboot and then let it pull the AMD driver from Windows Update.
You could also try doing that and then changing the driver under Device Manager by browsing to the AMD folder and pointing it there instead of using the AMD installer.

This reminds me of something from the nForce 3/4 days. There was some kind of cheesy software that nVidia installed that would mess with the NIC in bad ways.

It seems you have some installer file somewhere in your system(?) directory and that fucker (yes!) is messing it up when you reboot it reverts to that file and installs/uses the option you don't want.
And at this moment my mind is going blank on how to get rid of it...

You have a directory called AMD on your C: drive , remove everything inside before you try installing and that should remove the option for the bad drivers to be loaded.

You would have to check if the chipset drivers are in there. Some people use DDu in safe mode to get rid of it all ...

Thanks so much for your effort Pieter! i really appreciate it. I'm going to try to just push this through into Windows 10 and hope that maybe... just maybe i dont have the same issue. But if it does, then I will be doing exactly as you suggested.

I would reinstall, run the appropriate AMD driver set before ever plugging into the NIC. And then see what happens.

Thanks Kyle! Oddly enough - i actually did just that (on accident) on Sunday night / Monday morning. I took the PCI NIC out since it had no difference on the system and decided to start over from scratch. So i stuck the windows disk in, went into BIOS and verified the correct boot sequence (since i had last loaded defaults, i didn't know what it had defaulted to), enabled on-board LAN, then installed windows yet again. I was REALLY frustrated as it showed there was no connection at all after i installed driver, until i realized i forgot to plug the cable into the ethernet port on the motherboard. However, there still is no difference. Would have been cool if that helped and i had accidentally done it ;-).

Spartacus - I just now was scrolling up and realized i never read your post. I'm so sorry i overlooked it, and it looks like good information too! If i have continued issues i'll look into it. Thanks again for your help and again, my apologies for overlooking it and not acknowledging your post.

Try to determine which driver breaks it. I'd start first with GPU drivers. Do a complete uninstall of GPU drivers then make sure it's only using VGA driver to confirm network functionality. If it works then reinstall GPU drivers but choose custom and only install graphics driver and HDMI audio if needed while leaving all others unchecked like gaming evolved, control center, etc. I've had some versions of AMD GPU drivers install extra components that kill my keyboard and mouse. Fortunately, was able to RDP in to restore.

Well... interestingly enough, i upgraded to Windows 10. Since the upgrade, this problem has ceased to exist. I dont know what was going on in Windows 7, i'm just glad it's over with now! Thanks for all the help everyone, but i'm leaving this issue in the past now ;-)
