I'm working on a Dell Latitude E5410 that freezes up at the Please Wait screen. Several times I have got past the Please Wait screen and get ctrl-alt-delete to login. Then when I login it will freeze at Welcome. The little ball stops rotating and no hdd activity.

I am able to boot into safe mode.

So far I have tried:
1) system restore
2) sfc /scannow
3) clean boot - disabling all but Microsoft programs and service from starting up
4) Dell diagnostics - Finds no problems, hdd, memory OK

At first I thought maybe it was the users profile so I enabled the local administrator account but that freezes at Welcome also.

Does this sound virus or spyware related? I have not tried running any virus or spyware scans yet as the user didn't complain about the typical symptoms before it stopped working.

Any thoughts?

driver issue or spyware/virus like you say... could be a number of things though...

does sound a bit like a virus, try the system restore option by putting your CD into the drive and booting, selecting system restore..
