If you are still running the beta version of Windows 7, someone will come to your house every two hours and punch you in the face until your dumb ass installs the release candidate. That's what I heard anyway.

Beginning today, users that are still running the trial version of the company's next OS will see it shut down every two hours. The interruptions are designed to encourage early adopters to move to Windows 7 Release Candidate, a more polished preview version of Vista's successor.

If someone's using 7000, I'm going to laugh. I had alot of issues with the <7100 series which I felt 7077 was the most stable. However 7100 was slightly better. 7264 is out right now and apparently the story is that the keys don't work for that so people have to crack it to get activated.

So are those beatings cumulative or consecutive? I mean can multiple enforcers show up one after the other punching the offender in his/her face, or does the next enforcer relieve the previous? I like the idea, and it should extend to stubborn noobs running Windows 2000 or XP when Windows 7 is released unless they meet some sort of exception criteria.

If you can get some clarification on that, it would be great.

KTHXBYE

:)

I don't have a problem with this at all. Lets see.... you signed a EULA that says you could only use it till a point and now your using it beyond the EULA. Frankly, I'd count my self lucky this is all it is doing. As is, you can still easily recover data from the install and migrate to a RC (which of course will also turn into a pumpkin). If I had designed it, it probably would have deleted the OS from the drive if itwas booted up after the "kill" date. Formating is a bit exteme, so just delete c:\windows. Of course I wouldn't have tested that feature and since you installed on d:\ your F*ed but that would have been my solution. :D

I'm in beta and mine ends in about 4 hours. I want a version of the RC but its gonna take Newegg a few days to get it to me, so I'll prob stick with XP when I format.

Does the enforcer(s) in question use brass knuckles?

If anyone needs to go torrenting for a legit copy of the RC here is the MD5 for the 7100 x64 ISO that I downloaded from Microsoft. You can use your beta key to activate it, but who cares about activation when you have slmgr -rearm

I made the mistake of installing the language packs.
It took over 7 hours on a quad with 8 gig of ram.

To think, that by now.. someone would have found a way to remove the clock so that it never turns a minute old :D !!!

Your post blows my mind.

A blown mind seems better than his.

I think he might be better off just formating his computer and never turning it on again.

Yes.
The language packs were updates.

it took that long cause it had to download them first...so your proc & ram had little effect and the installation media had no effect...it was probably your internet connection speed and the size of the language packs that most affected the install time...why did you install all the language packs anyway? just curious...

DAMN. Didn't know innerwebz download speed is tied to a quad and 8gb ram. Must upgrade ASAP!

Which explained, means that your post (Lou Cypher) is as fail as the people playing online and bitching about someone who's lagging to upgrade their computers.

I do a physical face palm when people do that. :p

The download only took about 5 min, it was the install that took hours.
After the install it had to restart twice as it updated, that took another hour.
If you don't believe me try it yourself.

This thread is full of fail. I hope that Newegg ships my W7 RC disk via FedEx. I only have 4GB on the quad right now and you know how screwy slow that can get when using UPS.

I can't tell if you are adding to the fail on purpose or not...

Excuse me but I find that highly offensive being called that. You'll be hearing from my mother soon. I hope you reflect on your actions.

Uh oh, it looks like someone's going to be sent to the corner.

Seriously, if anyone is still running build 7000 right now, this is being rather generous of microsoft.

I tried to download the W7 RC from that link and everytime (about 3x) it said the file was corrupt, so I said fuck it and just put in Vista 64. I can wait till it's officially released.

Windows 7 is getting some serious love from the interwebz. All I can say is that it deserves it.

might just grab the latest RC and buy a 1tb HDD to install it on,
then, once it's installed move my files and stuff back into place.

Windows 7 is great. I really disliked vista, and was skeptical about win7. Once I installed it I never turned back. I'm just thankful that we are going to skip vista here at work and go straight to win7.

Ubuntu 9.04 is nice too. I keep ubuntu on my lap top for fast booting and office work.

Odd , I havent gotten any message. My copy of Win 7 has been running 24x7 for the last couple days.

What version is giving the message?

The original beta - there is a workaround so you can upgrade it, Download the RC, open the iso and in the sources directory open the cversion.ini file and edit the MinClient= value to a number less than your beta build - I used 6890 and it upgraded nicely.
