Windows 7 BETA Demo

I haven't seen the vid in action but that chick looks mongo from the still photo.

Is there some easy way to install a concurrent copy of win7 alongside my Vista install? I dont want to use a VM.

So, the new features include:
- Faster resumes - ok, this is useful (and probably worth an "it's about damn time" comment)
- A way to manage too many IE windows, because you don't know how to used tabbed browsing
- An "outline" for windows so you can peek through to the desktop (minimizing to see the desktop is already present in XP and probably earlier versions). Of course, this one is on the RIGHT of the taskbar instead of the left... yay.
- A quick launch bar that's integrated to the taskbar (isn't this already on XP?!)
- "Snap to" which is a simpler version of right-clicking the taskbar, then selecting "Tile Windows Vertically". I imagine this could get very annoying if it does it "automatically" when I am shuffling windows around, so this will likely get turned off.
- Jump lists - ok, this could be useful

So, 2 new "features" (Jump lists and faster resumes) and 4 other useless items. Way to sell a product.

Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to operational improvements in Vista 2.0... I mean Windows 7... but this "ad" was pretty crappy.
Those were my impressions exactly.

Yeah, I know the improvements and features of Windows 7 are far beyond those included in the video, but other than the two schwinn highlighted, it seemed like a strange selection of features to showcase.

Since I'm already halfway migrated to Linux, though, and because I'm a cheapskate, it's going to be a hard sell to get me onto the latest version of Windows.

So I read some of the comments on here and expect to see an awesome looking chick when I can finally see the video. She's cute but not any kind of stand out. I'd hit it but wouldn't make it a point to tell anyone.

Yeah I just installed Windows 7. So far all Vista 64 drivers have worked fine:

nVidia 185.20 drivers
X-Fi Vista 64 drivers
Ralink-based wifi card
P45 / ICH10R / onboard dual gigabit
etc etc

Everything just works and the OS is pretty quick I might add. so far so good. just need the key at some point.

The average user has between 5 and 15 different windows open at any one time? Who the hell is the average user?

I'm loving it so far, but unfortunately it's not yet stable enough to become my main OS. Explorer crashed once (although it did restart automatically, and very quickly) and IE 8 crashed once. This is in just an hour of use. I've seen a few other quirks as well. Media Center has some really nice updates.

What a cutie :)

I'm looking forward to this. However, you have to wonder what MIcrosoft is thinking pushing this so early. I was all ready to go get another copy of Vista for my daufghter's computer and now am probably going to wait till Windows 7. All this is going to do is hamper retail sales of Vista and people will be holding on to XP longer. It loks great though and I will probably be jumping on it at release.

That's why all the PC stores are disposing of XP next week so if you have any PC's that still use it get one at a store before that happens. Our store has been asked to return all remaining inventory of Windows XP software. This I guess will give Microsoft perhaps a 3-6 month window to sell remaining Vista copies as Windows 7 comes out this year and Ballmer mentioned it was almost complete but for Microsoft who knows what almost complete means.

Her voice affectation drives me nuts. She's one of those that lilts her voice high at the end of a sentence as if she's asking a question even when she's not asking a question. And she has this tight clipped speech pattern too. Otherwise, I'd check out her task bar.

Sounds like the 80s valley girl. That was my impression with the first thing that came in her mouth. I mean came out of her mouth.

:p

Okay got my key...due to the punkbuster issues w/ certain games, I restored my Vista install and right now I'm installing Windows 7 on a second disk for dual boot. joy.

The "Snap To" window sizing feature, should have been a feature since Windows 95. I don't know how many times I've manually moved the windows around to compare or copy information. It just doesn't seem like that hard of a feature to implement, there have been third party window managers out for years.
