Well, the other day, my BFG 7950gx2 crapped out, the only video card I was left with, while my other card was out for repair, was an old Ati 9800xt. It works fine on Vista, but on Windows 7 RC1 I receive this error:

I have already experimented with different versions of the catalyst drivers and even some 3rd party ones.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
John

I think this is b/c the current drivers for Win 7 do not support any cards below the HD2000 series. So the X1000, X100, and 9XXX series are not supported if I remember right.

Try installing the windows vista catalyst 9.1 package. The 9.3 legacy driver had no info for my radeon x1650xt but the 9.1's worked for both my 9600pro and my x1650xt on 2 different windows 7 rigs. If that doesnt work try going as far back as catalyst 8 and let us know your results.

I have a very old Dell laptop with Win7+Aero working on a ATI Mobility Radeon 9700.

Try finding a driver with Windows Update. It's worked for me in the past with older ATi cards.

This is exacly what one off my previous 280:s did, same thing in Vista and Win7 so it has nothing to do with Win7. Turns out the card was artifacting quite a bit and will be RMA:d for replacement along with the other card that died the same time.

well....
I installed catalyst 9.1
and the computer fails to boot now
haha

I think I'll just wait until I get my bfg card back from RMA

thanks for the help anyway guys!
