For the past week or two my 7/64 Enterprise OS has been requesting updates every night. Sometimes just 1 or 2, sometimes 70 or more. I've been running them, generally without problem. The next day there's more. I don't think the world is experiencing the same thing or there would have been news, right?

Look at what updates it says it wants, then check the next day if it's asking for the same updates again. Windows sometimes gets stuck wanting the same updates over and over again.

Now, if it's a clean install, yes, it's quite possible for the updates to behave this way until you have them all. If it was an existing install that is now doing it then it definitely might be borked.

If it keeps doing it, try this https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter/Reset-Windows-Update-Agent-d824badc
