I have a several win2k machines attached to a win2k server. Two of the client machines have very long startup times. I'm talking in the range of 30 to 40 minutes sometimes. Two of the other machines are unaffected, and startup normally. I checked the event logs and saw some warnings about the "DNS controller".

Any ideas as to where I should look to fix this problem? I should probably also mention that the two problematic machines start up normally when I unplug the network cable.

This thread most likely will get moved to the networking forum.

It seems as though you are running active directory. Make sure that thoes computers are pointed at the Domain controller as theri primary DNS server, check to make sure that the addresses are correct.

It sounds like there is some DNS issure with the network, you should have a log for your DNS server too in even viewer.

Yes, there's a router. I'm not sure if Active Directory is running, but I don't think it is. I went around and changed the DNS on the problematic client computers and they're loading faster now.

If both the server and the router have DCHP running, could that be a problem?
