Windows 10 upgrade still free?

A while back I upgraded my Win7 laptop to Win10 via their free offer to do so. On the new PC I'm building, I can get Win10 w/key for $28 or Win7 w/key for $19. Is Microsoft still offering the Win10 free upgrade? If so, I will just save the $$ and get Win7.

You can find legitimate product keys for windows and games on the cheap here:

Steam CD Keys and Game Keys - Compare & Buy | Kinguin.net

The games or windows programs themselves are not available on this site, just the keys. The keys are purchased in bulk from Microsoft and resold. Windows versions can be downloaded for free at Microsoft then use the key you purchased to activate it.

After purchasing you are emailed the product key, an actual photo of the key. The site has buyer protection for only $1.10 in case it doesn't work for any reason.

Windows 7 and 8 cost less than 10. As stated above, the Win10 free upgrade will be available till July. You can save a few bucks by getting the older OS then upgrading for free.

I wonder if the "upgrade to windows 10 free" icon will disappear when it stops being free.

If the product key doesn't work or quits working in the future I have the buyer protection. The problem I'm having is being able to unzip a copy of Win7 to my flash drive so I can plug it into my new PC to install windows. None of the downloads seem to decompress properly to make a suitable boot/install drive
What programs have you tried? Rufus - Create bootable USB drives the easy way seems to be popular method, even though there are several that do this task

I have tried EZip which failed totally. I tried WinZip which was able to decompress the files and save them to my flash drive...but my new PC doesn't recognize the presence of an OS on the flash drive when I try to boot from it. I'll give your suggestion a try.

The Rufus app looks like what I need. I started the app and it recognized my empty pen drive. I have a question...I believe what is needed is an ISO. There is an option to choose between FreeDOS, ISO Image, or DD Image. What is an ISO Image? Sounds like what I need maybe. It wants me to select an image? Forgive my lack of knowledge on this. The last time I installed a new OS it was from a disk. Now I don't even have an optical drive.

"when" it stops being free? Good one. It'll always be free. Trying to create an artificial sense of urgency is sales 101.

I spoke too soon. Foiled again. The installation begins...I select language then install now. Then an error pops up saying CD/DVD device drivers are not installed. I don't even have a CD/DVD drive. It asks me to search for drivers. All I have is a brand new SSD

You can use the media creation tool or just download the ISO and use rufus. Since your a little new to all this i recommend just using the media creation tool here http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=691209 or from this page Windows 10. If you perfer to only download the iso it can be done here Tech Bench
Is that download from the Tech Bench page version 1511? If not it's better to use the media creation tool.

EDIT: Just checked, yeah it's version 1511. (y)

The link worked great. Got Win10 up and running like a champ. Gonna update all the drivers then try out some benchmarking and see where this rig stands.

Thanks so much for all the help gentlemen
