window molding

im unsure on how all you guys use window molding. ive seen it where the molding is attached to the edges of the case door, and then the plexi is on top of the molding, attached to the case door. then ive seen people who get the H shaped molding, with the window attached directly to the door. this seem hard, because you'd need to have the hole and the window be pretty much the exact same shape. is it dumb to use no molding, just attach the plexi to the case door and make sure you dont have sharp edges? what works best?
