Does anyone know if there are plans for an SMP client on windows?

not for a long time as the SMP client is basically a linux/unix based model and getting the gromacs/mpi code to work with windows...sorry

You could install VMware Server and then install linux in a virtual machine. You would then be able to run the LinuxSMP client on the linux VM. Your computer would need to be at least dual core (or dual CPU) 64 bit and support virtualization.

i am running Mage's VMWare distribution, but the performance difference is ridiculous:
~10-12 mins/ frame in the VM
~6:xx mins/ frame under Linux

Same clockspeed CPU etc.

has anyone tried running the linux SMP client in Cygwin or so? (I r the noob)

I couldn't get mage's distro to work. It seems I have trouble with the stuff that should be easy. So, I did it the hard way and just installed Suse in the VM which turned out to be easy for me. My machine is running a 3027 @ a tad over 6 minutes a frame. The machine is a C2D @ 3.33. That's right at 2 minutes a frame faster than my Opty 170 @ 2.85 which is running Linux as it's main OS.

If your times are that much different on the same project numbers, it almost sounds like you are not getting the SSE boost on the VM.

I am actually doing that right now as well, but my VM appears to be as fast as molasses in a New England February.
