Winamp 5 Display

I've running winamp five with no particular skin and i have an issue with the play list--I want it to display hte file names of the files. I don't want it hanging out using the id3 tags, I want it to use my file names and well, it won't. Anyone know where this setting is? It was in winamp 2.9 and easy as pie to find.

Huh, I didn't even know 2.9x had that option. I would be kind of interested in this as well, since I carefully rename files but very rarely change the id3 tags to match.

i hate id3 tags... i went through once.. and renamed all my mp3s once.. and delted all the tags... i did about 100 a day.. it took forever
 
the file name... say you name your file: Grateful Dead - Eyes of the World.mp3

then that is what you see in your playlist, minus the .mp3

back in the day.. i used to name them like (Grateful Dead) - Eyes of the World.mp3 but that was in 1999 or something like that... and people haven't done them that way since for some reason...

hypothecically, if one is to download off kazaa. then they get shit like..
7 (1).mp3
10-Roses.mp3
212-mike_jones.mp3

and you gotta figure what the fuck the song is from the damn id3 tag just to rename it.
i know one file could be renamed
Outkast - 10 - Roses.mp3 or something like that...

blah.... quick answer: if you delete the id3 tag you see the file name.. minus ".mp3"
 
The problem with that is that, especially with certain *obtained* music, the id3 tag is the only thing containing any information about album and song #, so if I delete all of those....

How would you delete them all anyway, without doing them one at a time?
 
Instead of deleting the ID3s, I suggest running all of your carefully renamed files through a program called Tag & Rename. It can construct ID3 tags from the filenames in batches, leaving you with nice and clean ID3 tags AND nicely renamed MP3 files, with minimal effort.
 
Furthermore, once you have the ID3 tags, you can have Winamp 5 display the title and artist (or whatever) in whatever format you want...

Options -> Preferences -> Input -> Nullsoft MPEG Audio Decoder -> Title/Tags Tab

Been using tag and rename...and man oh man is it worth the $30. I thought it was a little expensive, thought it was gonna be about half that price but seriously, the amount of time it saves you....of course there's a lotof box checking off, etc, but better than renaming things by hand if i were to do 100 a day like scottatwittenberg, it would take me more than two months....and who knows how many hours a day that would take....yeesh, my little fingers.!
