Whenever I would try to play nfsu with winamp 5 playing, 95% of the time it would make the game lagg to a slow, but randomly sometimes it would work fine.

Man 5 musta been hogging something, so I found winamp 2 and it works just as good but causes no problems.

Strange too, I mean if I was playing at 2425mhz with 220fsb and 2-2-2-11 timings on 512 ram and my ti4200 clocked pretty good with the nfsu cd mounted on a seperate hard disk, 7200rpm disks, etc. But weird I never had these slowdowns with say farcry.
 
Winamp5 is built on the winamp2 engine. There are still some bugs with it but there should be a new release soon.. I hope. never tried WA3.. went from 2 to 5.
Although, I have never had a problem with winamp playing in the background..
make sure you enable hardware acceleration in winamp [in prefs.. plugins.. output.. directsound.. configure.. select soundcard and Allow Hardware Acceleration]

Weird if the problem was hardware acceleration being off. Seems like it should be a default setting.

edit: I tried winamp 5 again, yeah hardware acceleration isnt enabled by default :eek:

I know some people have trouble with playback stuttering etc and usually is because hardware acceleration is off. I would think this day n age it would be enabled as default, also.

Installed foobar once.. was freakin huge footprint on the desktop. How can you get it to be winamp size?
Although... winamp does what I need it to do.. play mp3s.

you can have foobar memorize the size parameters in Preference. you can install a custom GUI as well.. but most people (me included) like the simple, plain, lacking design..
