Win7 + Usenet = Hard Lock

OK, so this is an odd problem that I'm (totally off the top of my head) attributing to hard-drive issues?

Whenever I use USENET servers my machine (i920, 6GB DDR3, Win7, 9800GTX+) machine will hard lock after a random period of time. Sometimes it's a few hours, sometimes it's five minutes.

It's literally a hard lock in that I can do nothing. No input to the PC will work. An odd thing I've noticed is that my USB mouse will no longer be powered once it happens, but the monitors and everything on the PC are still on, they just no longer function.

I've tried multiple Usenet clients, thinking it was that, but it hasn't fixed the problem. Thinking it was a h/d issue I set the client to only write every 100MB downloaded, etc... but no change there.

The only things I've found via the event logs are:
- A timeout was reached (30000 milliseconds) while waiting for the Roxio Hard Drive Watcher 9 service to connect.
- The last event prior to lock was "The Protected Storage service entered the running state." but that was at least 5-6 before it occurred.

==================

Any thoughts?

It would help if you listed the entire specs of the PC including the exact make and model of the power supply.

GrabIt has been a pain in the ass with Windows 7 64, but it's interesting that multiple clients are having problems.

I read somewhere about a guy who had problems connecting to several "livenet" harddrive storage services... He said that with xp it was fine but with 7 he hacked his tcpip and it stopped locking?? he said something about it treating it like p2p are something about the damn software giant limiting his crap based on something to do with torrentz and it "F"ing up other things.

Check out a different software interface to help narrow down if it's directly related to your program, or like someone else mentioned earlier, maybe your tcp/ip is hosed. I remember back in the ol'e days doing tech support for an ISP and hating it when someone had installed the AOL software because they would totally hose the TCP/IP DLL's and settings.

I normally use Grabit and have no trouble with it, but lately I have been using sabnzbd, but it's a little more trouble to get setup.

Did I hear someone say USENET?!
LOL! Yes, I did. And why pray tell are you on that thing? Do you get a distinct sadistic pleasure from reading 200 spam posts on a group with only 2 posts per day?
BTW, you aint running DOS on a 286 as well is you?

Is this sarcasm?

That's a really weird problem. Are you also running other things while downloading, like doing a par check, or downloading headers while assembling downloads?

Personally I use NBPro, Best $30some dollars I've spent ever.

Try disabling your antivirus from interacting with your client. I had something similar happen to me with Security Essentials causing xnews to occasionally throw errors.
