Win7+Ubuntu dual boot issues

I'm trying to set up a dual boot configuration with Ubuntu for my nephew but I've been running into a few problems. I have W7 installed first, and i made a 30gb partition with the windows tool. After installing Ubuntu to the partition and restarting i am greeted with the grub screen to select operating systems. Ubuntu loads fine, but selecting windows from the list will just restart the computer. If i run the MBR repair from the windows recovery disk i can boot into windows but obviously i can't select ubuntu.

How do i make them work in harmony? I considered Wubi but i heard there was some performance loss since it doesn't actually use a separate partition for the installation.

I tried reinstalling GRUB using the methods from the link above but i'm still running into the same problem. Selecting windows makes the pc reboot, ubuntu loads up fine.

Hrm, I know very little about the Windows bootloader beyond the fact that it is very picky and annoying, and provides no useful feedback whatsoever when it fails. Perhaps someone else can offer something useful, but I've never really had problems with the default grub chainloader and Windows. Have you looked around the Ubuntu forums or asked there?

You could try doing the reverse and booting Linux from the Windows bootloader. This is old, and I don't know if it will still work, but the process should be similar...

I haven't tried this on win7 but did with Vista. I didn't do any partitioning with Vista. I used the Ubuntu install to do everything. It worked great but eventually became unreliable.

Here's the breakdown of my quad boot:

Netbook is booting to sda1 where Windows 7 boot loader controls everything. I used EasyBCD to configure all the options. Ubuntu and grub2 are installed on sda2. OSX and Mac boot loader are both installed on sda3. Old eeeBuntu and grub 1.5 installed on sda5. I've done various installs and upgrades with no problems.
