Win7 not Saving Windows Settings?

When Win7 starts up I realize alot of the settings and stuff I set are getting reset.

I make my buddy list a little bigger because it cuts off alot of the longer screen names, I click the tab to hide offline screen names, and I set my folder view to "list." However, everytime I restart Windows I realize that these small things aren't being saved. It's a pain to look through my music folder when it's set to "detail" instead of "list."

Anybody know a fix?
 
It's up to programs to save window sizes themselves. Get a better IM program if you want that saved.
 
Window positions/sizes aren't saved unless you exit the program yourself first. Don't just let Windows kill it upon shutdown. Set your buddy list the way you want, exit the program, and restart it.
 
I'm using a really old version of AIM.

What about folder view preferences?
