For a couple of weeks in any folder on my 2000 machine where I have the view set to "Thumbnail" it only displays the .bmps and has the default "this is a picture file" icon for .jpgs, .gifs, etc... If I select a .jpg or .gif it'll still showup in the preview pane to the left. No new software was installed and no confguration changes were made at the time that this started. Any ideas on how I can get the thumbnails back for all the common image types?

Sounds like something weird happened to your registry.
If you dont mind messing with it you may want to look at this Issues with thumbnails or this forum for some solutions.

The first one refers to the wrong thumbnail. (it refers to the one that you see on the left side of the window whenever you select any image file, not the thumbnail that is supposed to be the icon) The other one looks exactly like what I'm looking for though, thanks!
