Today I tried Win10 loudness equalization (in Settings > Sound > Speaker Properties > Enhancements), hoping to hear louder footsteps in games. Oh boy, the eq is extremely terrible. It's not the dynamic range compression that I was hoping for. It's just too terrible for me to describe.

Not sure if it's related to the stock Microsoft Driver - High Definition Audio Device, dated 9/7/2018, driver version: 10.0.17134.319. I wonder will I get a better form of eq - a proper DRC with Realtek driver.

You can always use the Realtek driver; my ASRock board even came with Creative software, which I use in addition to the Realtek driver/software.

But start with the Realtek stuff. Can even install Razer software if you like.

Compression and loudness effects are entirely two different thing. Loudness only boosts certain frequencies at low (or sometimes all) volumes.
