win xp shutting down comp

I recently got a new cpu, mobo and video card for my computer and am installing xp pro. I formatted and the files copied over but when it restarts it tries to install for about a minute and then shuts down. It always shuts down at the exact same place (have tried this a few times). I also tried installing server 2003 and it couldn't copy over shell32.dll . Has anyone ever heard of this problem or knows what to do? I'm currently running Knoppix with no problems but do want XP.

Current config:
Mobo: ASUS A8N-SLI NF4SLI 939
CPU: AMD 64 3800+ ATHLON X2
Vid Card: 6800 GT
Power supply: 600W Maddog
Harddrive: 80 gig WD
Gig of Ram
 
You should run through the typical steps: Try memtest, and the diag tool for your hard drive. Check to make sure all cables are connected okay, and that the BIOS settings are alright as well. Since it appears to have trouble copying from the CD drive, you could try replacing that as well, along with the IDE cable it's connected to.
 
ive tried 2 different CD-ROM drives and both failed. I haven't tried a different IDE cable but the one I put in was brand new so I don't think thats the problem. I've already done memtest and that was fine. I have a WD and I didn't see a harddrive test on UBCD for it. I'm pretty sure that all cables are plugged in fine especially since knoppix is running fine. Any other ideas?
 
the copied over files are the ones that windows uses for install. (what windows does directly after formatting).
 
ok so after a long time i finally figured it out. For some reason XP did not have drivers for my 6800GT pci express vid card. I put in an old pci card i had lying around and installed windows with it. After that I replaced it with the pci express updated the drivers and everything worked beautifully. Computer is fast as hell
