win explorer freezes when i look at a folder with a movie

whenever i look at a folder with a .mpg i think it is, windows explorer freezes. i reinstalled windows media codec package which fixed nothing. im running a fully updated xp with im 99% sure no virii or spyware. any ideas?

I realize it specifies AVI files, but it may be a related issue. This tweak requires a reboot btw.

Try turning off thumbnails if they are on.

it fixed it. i didnt have to reboot, i just renamed that registry key and i looked at a folder and it worked fine. i remember it was that dll that was freezing up.


i was using details for my view.

i usually fix this problem by getting rid of the "dimensions" and "length" atribute columns in the details view. is this dll the thing that controlls this functionality in explorer?
