win 98 problem

i have installed win98 on my pc.when i start my pc it starts properly
for first 2-3 times.after sometime i restart it goes to the startup
logo of win98 and then either restarts or tells me
Windows protection fault.pls restart your computer.
i tried with a couple of display cards still i face the same problem.
i tried removing my ram and placing it again but no use.
 
Why would you reinstall Windows 98? Your computer's getting old.

When it reboots into the splash screen hit the escape key and see if anything is running in the background.

does W9x have a boot log?
 
it works in safe mode everytime i boot.
i have a celeron 333mhz with 64mb ram
 
You may also go Start-Run-msconfic, uncheck everything on startup & reboot/reboot/rebboot......If it stopped, try eliminating it using that list.

Which antivirus you got...Mcafee ??
