Win 7 Sleep Issues

Hey everyone,

Have a real frustrating issue I can't seem to troubleshoot and google hasn't helped me that much as sleep issues seem to be varied and somewhat complex..

I've been having an issue with my PC not sleeping properly for the past few months now. I get a windows improper shutdown msg upon waking it from sleep when hybrid sleep is disabled - when hybrid sleep is enabled(default) I used to be able to resume my previous session within seconds without the pc having to go through POST - but since hyrbrid sleep mode saves your session to both RAM and you're HDD(in case of power failure/outage) and the PC has been going through POST prior to resuming my session, my initial thought was an issue with my PSU or possibly my RAM is going bad?...

My 6 yr old PSU died about two weeks ago so I figured it may have something to do with that but the issue remains even after replacing it. Then I figured i'd start fresh and format my primary hard disk and re-install the OS - still having the same problem...played around with BIOS settings S1, S3 etc etc, nothing has changed. Yesterday on lunch I ran memtest86 and let it run until after I returned home from work/gym (about 6hrs later) and it detected no problems with my memory within that time frame.

I'm at a loss here because everything checks out - if its not bios, ram, power supply, or the OS power settings, then could it be the motherboard?

Any help is greatly appreciated..

Which is it? Is hybrid sleep enabled or disabled?
Does the wakeup work properly after manually setting it to sleep, therefore the problem is confined to auto-sleep?

I have to leave it enabled. If I disable hybrid sleep, upon waking the computer I get the improper shutdown error prompting me to boot into safe mode, normally etc etc. Its as if my session isn't being loaded to RAM correctly or there was a loss of power..

I installed a new power supply, reinstalled Win7, ran memtest86 for 6 hours with no error messages, and played with all bios power settings so far - I guess I'll have to settle for hibernation.

Its not confined to just auto sleep, same results either way..
