Win 7 host, Win 2003 Guest on VMware - EXTREMELY SLOW network transfer

We're running Win 7 RC at work here (don't ask why, I don't get it either) and running VMware workstation with a Win 2003 server guest.

The problem is, the network connection between the two are extremely slow. Transfers usually max out at around 20kb/s. The guest and host can transfer from other clients and network drives just fine, but it seems to only be a slowdown between the host and guest.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Ok, so it's the virtual network adapter. Which network do oyu have the guest on - NAT, bridged,...?

It appears to be bridged. "replicate physical network connection state" is NOT checked.

I tried that, but now the guest can't access anything on the network. e.g., it can't connect to the SQL server at another IP.

Anything i can do to the vmware adapters under the host's network connections? Thanks.

EDIT: actually, it cant seem to access ANY sites from inside the guest. thanks.

ebbeh? Odd, with NAT it should just use the same access the...

OH! Did you have it on a static IP?

I do not. Should it? Also, should it match the same range as the host? The host is 192.168.1.X, while the guest is 192.168.25.X.

Ahhh, I still can't connect.

Here is my setup. I have a VMware virtual adapter and the IP settings are set to obtain the IP automatically.

I'm able to get DNS info, but I can't ping anything from the guest. I can ping the guest from the host, but not the other way. I'll provide any info I can but I can't seem to figure this out. Thanks.

well, not exactly. NAT has a separate IP range (and dhcp server) for a "hidden" network. host gets IP XXX.XXX.XXX.1 and the gateway is XXX.XXX.XXX.2, while the guest gets whatever the host assigns it in that range.

Sounds like DHCP is working fine. Ping 192.168.25.2 - that should be the gateway for the NAT device. (from the guest).

Well, I got everything working eventually, but it seems the problem isn't the network, but an issue with visual studio's project files. It seems when saving a file in a web project, it takes 10 seconds to do so. Loading up a web folder instead of a project allows files to be saved much faster. so my issue with visual studio and not the network between the host and guest. thanks anyway though.
