Win 7 computer not connecting via hostnames.

Hello all,

Hopefully someone can help me out. Ive got a dd-wrt based router, running dnsmasq.
Now when I connect to my server for webmin or to ssh. I can just connect using the hostname. But when I try to do the same thing in windows, I simply cannot get anywhere. Ping leads to "could not find host server."

Any ideas? Network discovery/sharing is on if that makes a difference?

There are a lot of missing details, but first thing I would try is filling in the DNS suffix in Windows.

Before you do that, try pinging whatever you are trying to connect to from windows using the fully qualified name (hostname.domain.com). If you get a reply, enter the domain.com in the DNS suffix area in properties of My Computer.

Just a shot in the dark based on the information provided.

Are your DNS settings in Windows pointing to your DD-WRT box?

Haha. Sorry for the stupid question all. I had assumed too much since my OSX system was able to find them without any configuration, and I could have sworn that at one point it worked fine without needing configuration.
