with no problems, or case modding?

i have a 500 watt psu iam thinking of using for misc stuff (fans, fan controllers, usb drivers) and a 1k that i will be using for my 8800 sli set up, cpu and my hdd's. i figured i have it just sitting around so why not.

i have yet to receive my case (chirstmas holiday's sorta screwed that up) and just wanted to know if anyone has done this yet, and if i will have any issues in doing so.

one PSU should be able to handle all of that with ease...

No, the Stacker 830 will not hold two power supplies. For that you need the Coolermaster Stacker STC-T01. Also, the Lian-Li PCA10 supports dual PSU's as well.

Not to mention that 500w PSU will hum like a bastard with that low a load on it. The 1Kw PSU will be able to handle everything (and it's overkill at that)

thanks for the reply's guys

the only reason iam even concitering a second psu in the pc is that i will be running 8 hdd's (video editing ;)) as well as a dual core 4800 with an xfi and two 8800's, also my onboard usb ports are maxed out and in use.and was trying to avoid getting a new case to hold it all. i was going to try and mod the 830 with two hdd bays and two psu's.

the 830 was a Christmas gift so it's not like iam going to be loosing out on cash to buy another case myself. iam prolly best off to just get a server tower anyway than monkey around with case modding.

The 830 just isn't as roomy as its predecessor, the STC-T01. The older case was actually a bit easier to work on, though the drive bays on the 830 are FAR nicer. Additionally, the cooling is much better on the newer model. The STC-T01 holds more drives, and dual PSUs and has room to spare. A full E-ATX motherboard and dual processors is not a problem for that case. Though the 830 can hold almost as much, just not dual PSUs.

I say go for the 1kW, if it looks like you might need a second drive THEN get it. I have one, as big of a case as it is, it would be tight with that many hard drives AND a second PSU.

If you do succeed, do post pics :D

you mean the drive bays or the drive bay covers?

There are physically fewer drive bays on the 830 than there are on the STC-T01 and 810 models. Additionally, the PC Power & Cooling 1Kw SR will NOT fit in the Stacker 830. It will fit in the STC-T01.

right, but what did you mean by "drive bays on the 830 are FAR nicer"?

The PC Power & Cooling 1Kw SR will fit in the 830 stacker but you have to get rid
of the top fan and bend a piece of metal from the top to get it in?
I have the 830 stacker and the silverstone 1000 when it turns up?
most of the 1Kw psu are very long and awkward to get in but they are still a great
case? :)

That's ghetto, and I'll be damned if I'll start bending and or cutting on a $250.00 case instead of buying the right case to start with.

I don't know about the Silverstone PSU. The Stacker 830 can handle PSUs that are up to 1 inch longer than standard ATX 2.0 PSUs without modification.

The bay covers are far easier to remove, and the drive rails are far easier to use than the ones on the older models.

That means that you perfer to spend another $250 for a case, for the sake of bending a
piece of metal? Thats crazy or money is no problem?

The silverstone 1000 is 220mm or 8. 3/4 inches and it can't fit in the case without bending
a little steel metal bar

No I would check and make sure that the case will have ample room to mount my power supply, and if it didn't I would buy a different case. I actually recently had this issue. I purchased the 830 knowing it wouldn't fit a PC Power & Cooling 1Kw SR. It does however fit just about every other PSU such as the one in my sig. The one in my sig has to be inverted to work, but I knew it would fit in advance.

Proper research should always be conducted before purchasing any hardware. This includes cases. I don't want to hack up a $250 case. Instead I'll make sure it's the right case before buying one and proceed accordingly. It only makes sense.

Money is an object to a degree, but even if it weren't, I don't like to hack up or bend stuff in my cases. I'd rather do the job right.

I'd rather build with Roles Royce quality instead of Ford/Chevy quality.

rego001, it doesn't sound as if you have purchased the Stacker 830 yet. If I were you, I'd just go for the 831 or 832. It's nearly the same as the 830; it doesn't support BTX (no big deal here) but it does support a 230mm PSU if you should want to use one.

ok i got the case.

i put a pc power and cool 1k in. it fit in the case with no problem. i did have to cut a piece from the backer plate to make room for the power plug connector.

but i do have another more serious issue :(

my pci cards will not fit in this case properly! no matter what i do there always cocked sideways. i went to the coolermaster forums and seen that they had a post there about it and there solution was to bend the cards pci bracket plate. but after doing this my cards still do not fit right

i dont have all my drives in yet so i cant tell if a 1k will be enough for all of my hardware, and if i cant solve the pci issue iam going to return the case

I had the problem with the power plug as well. I losened the recepticle, and was able to move it out of the way enough for the backplate to seat correctly. No cutting is required.

Additionally, you would have to have the Stacker 831 or 832 for that PC Power & Cooling unit to fit. As it is my PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 EPS12v unit is longer than a standard ATX PSU and almost doesn't fit in the 830. I had to invert the PSU during installation to ensure that the mounting rail at the front of the unit wouldn't make contact with the upper fan mounting brackets. There is also one person who posted on the ASUS forums who is using the PC Power & Cooling 1Kw SR in the regular Stacker 830. This user commented on the fact that the PSU doesn't fit and that he left it hanging out the back of the case.
