Will VTT allow me to use lower VCore?

Hi all,

I'm working on ocing my Q9550 E0 and I was wondering if someone could help me with a question I have.

I have my cpu Prime and IBT stable at 3.604GHz, but it took a LOT of extra voltage. The VID on my chip is 1.1625v, but to get it stable I had to pump in 1.312v (actually, it can pass Prime 12+ hours at 1.275, but it needs a bit extra to pass IBT). I haven't altered any of the other voltage settings.

My question is, if I messed around with VTT or other voltages, would it possibly allow me to set the VCore lower? I get the impression that you really only resort to VTT when extra VCore isn't helping, and I'm loathe to mess with something if it works, but I have this nagging feeling that a chip with a VID so low should be able to do a lot more without having to go so high on the VCore. My peak load temps are 77, 73, 73, 73 (not catastrophic but not great), so I would definitely be happy if I could dial back the VCore a bit.

Any input? Thanks.

you could try messing with it.. i know i was able to hit 4ghz on the q9550 @ 1.27v.. but your load temps are perfectly fine and the voltage is well within the limit.. so if you can get the voltage lower then its a good thing.. but leaving it where its at wont hurt the processor..

also instead of raising your cpu voltage.. try raising your northbridge voltage while the cpu is at 1.275v but dont go to high on the northbridge voltage..

Thanks for the reply...I tried upping my NB, but strangely, it doesn't seem to have any effect at all. Even from every notch between default 1.25v to 1.40v, it doesn't allow me to lower the VCore and remain stable.
