Will USB work during install?

I read that SATA drives need a floppy with the drivers on a fresh WinXP install due to the SATA drivers not being on the CD. I hadn't planned on getting a floppy on the new computer because I have a USB external one laying around....so is it possible that I can use this instead? (motherboard will be MSI K8N Neo2 and a pre-SP1 version of WinXP Pro)

I think USB will, otherwise I couldn't have installed Windows way back when (USB keyboard and mouse at the time). As for USB floppy...possible. I've heard of people who have had success, but some say that Windows install recognizes the USB drive at first, then doesn't. Guess you gotta try.

I never had any luck with it, borrowing my fiancee's USB floppy as a test. Maybe some BIOSes allow it and some don't. I could boot from the floppy, just not get XP to recognize it during the install.

Well I guess I'll hope for the best, and worst case scenario I'll just pop open another box and grab one :)

i didn't need either a floppy nor a ps/2 keyboard to install XP Pro on my recent SATA drive (no other HD's either)... just enabled usb keyboard and mouse support on my mobo and everything worked fine...

i'm thinking things will probably work fine and that you don't need that floppy at all... just set mobo to boot from cd, then setup partitions and such from in xp install (it worked for me)...

it seems that most of the new mobos have usb support built right in the bios so all your usb devices should be working before the winxp install starts, now will winxp mess something up and not allow the usb device to work thats something I do not know.
