So first off, here's my hardware:

Original antec 900 mid tower
Asrock or Asus ep35 mobo, skt 775
Intel e6750 clocked to 2.8ghz, no vmod, air
4gb ocz reaper hpc ddr2-800
GeForce GTX-280
1tb WD blue
DVD burner

So my question is, would it be worth it to upgrade? Or should I start new? Or just start doing some heavier overclocking? From what I remember the 6750 is a nice overclocking processor. My setup runs most games no problem, but is starting to show its age.

Processors I am looking at are AMD a8 or a10, I5, or maybe phenom?

What's everyone's input here?

What PSU do you have?

If you're going to go with a totally new setup, Intel is supposedly planning on releasing their new Haswell CPUs in the June to July timeframe. The Haswell CPUs will be incompatible with every Intel socket out now so they will require a new motherboard socket. So pretty much any CPU and mobo we recommend today will pretty much be outdated in a month or two. So I recommend waiting until the actual release of the Haswell CPUs to start planning a totally new PC.

As for upgrades though, really not much you can do. Even OC'd that CPU is kind of a limitation for newer PC games.
 
Pc power and cooling silencer 750w.

I aggree that the proc is a limitation. Like I said, its starting to show in newer games. I've had the thing for nearly 3 years and it used to be a badass gaming machine. I guess it will hold me over for a couple more months.

So one more question. And when I build another computer, should I spring for the new procs, or buy the slightly older generations? College student on a budget here lol.

Well at least you can now reuse your PSU, HDD, and DVD drive with the new system. That case isn't that good but it's worth a coin toss to see if it's worth keeping around.

New procs unless there's a really really fantastic deal for the older parts.
 
what you choose to buy is what you consider is worth your money. the difference in haswell vs ivy bridge is nothing more than 5% in benchmarks.

Those are unofficial and very very early benchmarks. We won't know for sure until the actual release of the Haswell CPUs.
