Will This Work?

X-Qpack.
?? asus MB(Micro atx that can OC good)
Opteron 148 OC'd to 2.8ghz w/ Zalman 7000 (will that fit?)
Asus GF7800GTX
Liteon DVD
NeoPower 480
Hitachi or samsun 300gb sata Or smaller drives with raid 0

Is anyone running a system like this? Can I get a Asus MB that is Microatx that can run a opty @ 2.8ghz?

Yes and no. Yes those parts are all compatible, but no, ASUS does NOT have a board for mATX that can OC good. Your best best to OC is the foxconn 6150 or the biostar 6100 tforce

Well I've never heard of foxconn, and I don't feel like swinging it there.

I can wait a little longer see if anyone figures out if it's a good board or not.

Its a good board, it just cant overclock past 240fsb. The Bios is locked past 240fsb, its like...not possible.

I have Asus VM-CSM and I'm going to give it away to a friend and swap it with the Foxconn 6150. Foxconn = Winfast, surely you heard of Winfast.

Asus VM-CSM only has HTT setting 200-240. No multiplier, no voltage control, nothing. The only good thing about it is the DVI output. Its still a very good motherboard, if you're not gonna overclock it to the max.

You mentioned Opteron 148 OC'd to 2.8ghz w/ Zalman 7000. Opteron 148 is 11x200 if I'm not mistaken, max you can get with this motherboard is 11x240 = 2.64ghz. And it's not guaranted either since you can't give more voltage to your processor.

Besides foxconn 6150 and biostar 6100, theres the ASROCK 6100. They are all good for OC.
Here's a good link about foxconn OCing: http://www.overclockersonline.com/index.php?page=articles&num=317&pnum=6

Hmmm!. Yeah I've heard of winfast, but I've had a winfast mb go bad on me about 4 years ago.

Looks like they got prime at 265. so at 11X265 would be 2915.

You should get different results with different setup. Even same setup can yield different results actually. Just make sure you do extensive research before starting your overclock. Its not as simple as X times Y = Z. Make sure you post your result here, OpteroWns! :)
