Hello, I use my monitor for both my PC and my xbox 360( have the vga cable for it) and I have to turn my PC off to switch the cables back and forth. So I was wondering if this item would let me keep the PC on and just switch back and forth? Also would there be any image lose with something cheap like this? thanks.

What monitor is it, and what cables are you currently using to hook each device up?
That will make a significant difference on the solution recommended--in almost all cases KVM's are not an ideal solution due to signal loss.

Its a Compaq FS740 I hook it up to my PC with its vga cable and I hook my xbox 360 up to it with a xbox 360 vga cable and the gender changer that came with it.

This is the type of item you want to purchase. All I did was search for "VGA switch box" on Google and that was one of the first selections.

This is your ideal situation--you already have most of the cables you need (worst-case is you need to purchase a short VGA cable to go between the box and the monitor.)
