Will this Mobo/CPU Combo work

Thats what I thought...... but I would hate to load this bad boy and have a saggy diaper on afterwards...... if you know what I mean! :D
 
The 3700 San Diego is newer than this mobo is my guess......... Frack it, I think I will go for it. Any other thoughts!
 
Well, some people are using that board with the new S939 Opterons, and that's the same core. I'd bet you'll need the latest BIOS flash for it to work, just like with the Opterons.
 
Flash it before any set-up eh? I hate that. I guess I need to do my research better. I have read a few things about this board that make me uneasy. I have had great success with MSI in the past....... Maybe I will return it and buy and ASUS.
 
Actually, the MSI US site is not up to date, as far as the CPU compatibility list is concerned.

What's more, as a rule, any motherboard that you buy that's been on the market for a few months will have a BIOS version installed on it that's at least two or three versions old. In the case of the K8N Neo-2F, only the two latest BIOS versions support the San Diego or an X2 CPU. You need only one of those two.

Fortunately, you will have luck. The system (a 3700+ and the K8N Neo2-F) will at least boot to a command prompt as purchased (assuming that you've already made a bootable floppy disk containing the latest BIOS and the latest BIOS flash program). The BIOS will, at worst, detect your CPU as "Unknown CPU".
 
Success! It Posted and in BIOS, it reconized my Proc as an athlon 3700+!!!!!!!!! No Bios flash yet. Loading windows right now. I am pretty stoked. I will post Pics of my build after all is well and up and running... Thanks for all info.... I thought I might be in for one of the those horrible nights, but everything seems to be going smooth. :cool:

Opteron 1xx = Venus
3700+ on 939 = San Diego

It appears that the BIOS version installed on your motherboard is the second most recent one - and the first to support the newest line of CPUs.

You are using an ATi Radeon X800XTPE card on that mobo. However, should someone gets a GeForce 6800 series AGP card, be advised that there are compatibility issues between the 6800 series GPUs and the nForce3 chipset when used with the 7x.xx drivers. The only way to fix that for now would be to use the newer, 8x.xx drivers.
 
My CPU temps are around 43-45 idle.... from what I have read, this seems to be hot. I am using the stock cooler.....any ideas. I am using everest and msi digicell to read from windows, and HW monitor in bios states the same.........
