This is prolly a dumb question but I have been out of the PC building world for about ten years or so....

My board is an ASRock B85M-ITX (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157390). The CPU I currently have picked out is the Pentium G3220 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116950), which I picked due to its low price and it being something Newegg recommended paired to my board. However, while browsing Amazon, I came across the Pentium Processor G3240 (http://www.amazon.com/Intel-Pentium-Processor-G3240-BX80646G3240/dp/B00J2LIECO/ref=dp_ob_title_ce) for the same price, with a small step up in speed.

Will the Pentium G3240 work in the ASRock B85M-ITX board?

Yup, both are 1150 socket and the MOBO's 4th Gen claim is a reference to Nehalem (1st), Sandy Bridge (2nd), Ivy Bridge (3rd), and Haswell (4th) where that CPU is a Haswell generation.

Not worried about it being unlocked, tho I did look at that CPU.. This is going into an ITX case, a cooler master elite 130, and I wont be doing any over locking due to still not being comfortable with water cooling and the case design not allowing a large selection of CPU coolers.
 
Fair enough. You can always upgrade in the future. Also, The stock i3/5/7 cooler is decent. So if you ever run into heating issues its a cheap upgrade over the celeron / pentium coolers.

That's no excuse..The Pentiums run cool anyway.
I would take the unlocked Pentium over the i3 any day.
Too bad they never released an unlocked i3 :D

The cheap part helps too :p
I like this setup better than quad-core Ivy bridge.
 
On a side note the elite 130 can fit a 120mm aio water cooler, but you really shouldn't need it unless you go i5 or higher.
