My friend says that his AMD XP barton 2.0ghz will not bottlecap the 6800ultra hes ordering. I, on the other hand, say it is. Would any1 like to answer this for me?
 
you mean bottleneck....

and i'd say, yes it would be a bottle neck.. but i can't really say how much of a bottleneck.. i don't know.. maybe someone else can help with that...
 
Uhh yes. Even when i had my mobile 2.5 xp and went to my current setup even at stock 2.0 ghz it'd push the frames up and now at 2.4 its even higher so YES it sure will be a bottleneck! :p
 
is it a 2.0ghz or 2000+.. if it's 2.0ghz it won't bottleneck that much
 
Depends on resolution. At 16x12 4aa/8af it won't, below it will.
 
Exactly, depends on the resolution and settings.

If it's a 2000+ though, it will be bottlenecked at pretty much any res/settings... :p
 
my 2600+ is clocked at something like 1.9 or 2ghz right now...im probably going to be getting a 6800; how much would it bottleneck at 1280x768? would it be playable at 1680x1050? if i OCd the cpu by 200mhz or so would i see any difference? thanks.
 
I really wish people would quit worryabout what will "bottleneck" your system. If you install the fastest cards money can buy, than at least your game performance will be limited by another component rather than several components. The CPU will ALWAYS be a bottleneck at some point. Always. Better to have 1 bottleneck rather than two or three.

So install your 6800 Ultra Extreme and X850-PE's with confidence. At least that part of your machine will be fine. I am also assuming that if you've got the money for a kickass video card, that you will be upgrading your 2.0GHz/2000+ CPU's in the near future to compliment it.
