Will the 8800 ever get VP2?

So I bit the bullet on the 6800 series (when they were new) and got the AGP 6800GT which didn't have hardware support for avc playback. The 6600:s did and later on the pci-x versions of the 6800GT did too. I won't shell out for a 8800 until I get VP2. Any news on if that's about to happen or am I waiting in vain?

Maybe for the 8900s. I doubt it though.

There might be a driver update that allows better use of the card to decode video, but I imagine the reasoning is that the cards already provide a fairly good amount of CPU offload, and anyone that's using the higher end cards would already have a fairly beefy CPU. Of course, it could be something that would require too much fiddling around to get on there. who knows!

The 8800s still offload a bit of decoding from the CPU, just not everything like the 8600s do.
