im switching over to pc soon and was wondering if 2 295gtx would be better then 1 295gtx for rendering.

if i get sli, i have 2 lcds and planning to run 1 lcd on each video card.

i know for gaming it helps but dunno for rendering.

i mostly use maya and i use it alot. also i tend not to delete the history so i sucks up alot of ram.

not interested in going quadro as i have 1 in a mac pro and cant really game with it. i like to game and do animation at same time.

only if you are using windows 7.. the current beta drivers nvidia are working on.. 190.38 i think allow for multi gpu scaling in cuda.. but its still sketchy right now.. i do know it works for people running SLI and Folding@home so id most likely bet it will work for any other cuda application.. but its only supported in windows 7 right now from what i know.. ive only been partially paying attention to it since i dont run SLI..

but you should test it out on your single gtx 295 because currently if you arent using any of the drivers that support multi gpu cuda then maya, and adobe are only using 1 gpu on your gtx 295 currently..

ya might want to take a look at this thread since there is some talk about it..

read from post 18 down.. that has all the information you might need..

Folding requires 1 client per core. So I don't think scaling applies on that one. But thankfully we don't have to disable SLI to address independant cores anymore thanks to the 190.38 (it's WHQL now BTW)

sirmonkey bad linky there

Generally speaking scaling is based on the client software. If in maya a GTX295 rendered approximately 2x faster than a 275, then 2x 295's would show improvement.

grr,

sorry about that, posting at 4:45 AM with almost no coffee.

Depends on the renderer you use. Most, that I know of, just use the CPU for rendering. I imagine GTX295's in SLI will speed up your *viewport* render speed, but not production render, not unless you're using something like nvidia's Gelato.

Adobe what? Photoshop? CS4 uses your GPU to perform canvas rotations and canvas scalings, nothing more.

right now. im using photoshop, premire, after effects, maya.

currently using a mac g5 quad with a quadro video card

do you think mac 8 core Penryn will outperform a 296 i7 cpu in rendering?

i do game from time to time so i want to be able play games at high setting and reder fast.

i herd 300gtx is around the corner. i hope by then the drivers will enable sli rendering. mby snow leopard will have that.

for right now since 300 gtx is around the corner. i want to have a great gaming card with render power, what is the card i should get? i herd 260gtx is very cheap now used and has some power
