This new computer will be mostly used for school purposes and some gaming. I will also be overclocking this to its full potential.

Let me know what you think!

Nice specs! If you don't need wireless access, you can pick up a P5B-DX open box non-wifi for cheaper on newegg. Then you could put some more money into getting a better video card. Overall, you picked some great parts! Good luck with your build!

The motherboard he selected doesn't come with wifi it just has 2 pcie-x16 slots. Anyways spring for this XFX 7900gs as it should be equivalent to a 7800gtx. If your gonna stick with the 7600gt at least go for the Evga because you should be able to easily overclock it to match the BFG :) anyways nice build.

I was thinking of going with the BFG because of the rebate. Also I will be upgrading to a dx10 card in 2007 sometime so the graphics card is more of a placeholder until a cheaper dx10 card comes out.

Yeah but still that XFX 7900GS gives you the headroom as it will play anything at 1280x1024. With the 7600GT you can pick up an EVGA at $100 after MIR.

If you know you'll be able to placehold with that card, then by all means. But I got my evga 7900gs from newegg for 150ar, which isn't too far off. With a voltmod, it's speeds can go real high and match up / exceed 7900gt's, taking the lesser pipes into account. As for cpu, it's your call whether to go for the e6400 or the e6600. And seeing dual x16, you thinking of going sli soon? If not, there are much cheaper boards that can perform as well.

And the ram, I'm not certain what chips they use. Might want to look it up. I'm thinking it's the promos now? If so, the buffalo firestix 2x1gb 800mhz are d9gmh's, and cheaper too.

I understand that there are much better graphics cards out there for the 150-200 dollar range. However I won't be a doing a single bit of gaming until school is out at the end of may and even until june. Then I will spend my money for a nice dx10 video card. So under 100 is great and it will still be much faster than my current ati 9600.

My mobo does not support sli I believe, though it does have 2 pci x16 slots.

I am not familiar with buffalo but they are more expensive that the corsair. I changed my ram to http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145034 it is only 9 dollars more than the previous. Also I changed my graphics card to the eVga which is less.

Thanks for the input!

Alright, if you're not doing a single bit of gaming, maybe even the 7600 would be overkill. There are a lot of decent 7300/7600 cards that are under $100 even, and might suit your budget better.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820150054 are the firestix I was referring to. They climbed even higher in price since I bought them (after they already went up). The corsairs are good as long as you do your research and don't get ones that are promos chips.

p5b vas drop issues, get the giga-dq6
can't the droop in those be addressed with pencilmod? if so, not that bad at all

I'd go with a cheaper board, like the Gigabyte GA-965p-S3 instead, since you don't need a dual card setup.

How good of a over clocker is that? what about the DS3 or asus P5B-E?

what would be my most reliable overclocker?

It can OC as good as the DS3. Those are good choices, too. The best overclocker would be the Asus P5W DH or the eVGA 680i SLI. How high do you plan on taking it with just air? You should reach 3.6Ghz easily with that Scythe Ninja Plus, which would put the FSB at 400Mhz and the ram at DDR2-800. Any of those boards can do 400Mhz FSB.
