Will older floppy drives work for a newer system?

Have floppy drives remain unchanged the past years or so? I'm talking about the 1.44 MB floppy diskette drives... I'm building a new computer right now, but I don't want to spend $10-15 on a new floppy drive... I know nobody uses them these days, but I just want to have them just in case... The only floppy disk drives I have are from computers that are like 5-8 years old. Will these work with my new computer? Or have floppy drives changed within these last years causing me to get a newer one (faster/more reliable maybe? I dunno)...

Nah that stuff hasn't changed in probably 10 years. Older floppy drives are fine.

Yep, floppy drives, at least the 3.5" 1.44mb versions, have pretty much remained unchanged over the years. Same power connector, same cable connector. :)

Hey, if you want one for your system, I have a combo 5.25"/3.5" floppy drive hanging around here somewhere or other. Who knows, people might think you've got the first floppy/slot-loading cd-rom combo driver ever!! :D

According to Ice Czar, black floppy drives are faster than beige ones. :p
