Will my X2 4800 bottleneck my GPU?

I have an X2 4800 on the way, it has 2x 1GB of Kingston and 2x 256mb 7800 GTX in SLI. Just wondering if I will get bottlenecked on current games.
 
That CPU will be a bottleneck if you're going to do something goofy like play in 1024x768 with no AA. Pretty much any of today's CPUs would when paired up with SLI 7800GTXs. But at 1600x1200 4xaa 16af in most games, then most of the load is on the video cards (which is where it should be on your machine, since you put the most money there). So shoot for that.
 
I wish I had a 4800 to ' bottle neck ' my system hehehe....

When multi threaded games come out, that CPU is really gonna shine for you. :)


 
Your good to go.. If you get a CPU that is less than 2.2GHz (around a x2 4400+) then you might get some bottlenecking, just crank up the rez, and all eye candy you will be fine.

Dude... a 4800+ will not bottleneck you at any time when playing the latest games. As it has been said (not just in this thread, but others) that they are more GPU dependant than CPU. Even playing it in conditions where you take the GPU out of the equation (like low-res, no AA and AF) a 4800 will not slow you down at all. Only if you had something a lot slower would it be an issue. But seeing as you have that setup, with 2 7800GTXs in there, current generation, and dare I say it, to an extent, next-generation games will not be a problem at all. :)
 
NO, x2-4800 is a sweet chip, best at the moment. There no such thing as bad equipment only bad owners, lol. Anywho most ppl with FX 57 or higher would trade with u since is so much nicer.
 
Yeah it will bottleneck it HARD. Upgrade to a pre-production X4 7800 at least... the 4800 is a POS IMHO. Generally the megahertz of your CPU should be greater or equal than the model number of your video card. eg.

Geforce 7800 = X4 7800

It did seemed kind of silly of me to ask this as I'm getting the highest dual core out right now but there was a guy on a different forum with an FX-55 that said there are no CPU to date that can keep up with 7800 GTX 256mb in sli.

Finger, your comments has convinced me to upgrade my flat panel next. I'm currently on a 17" TFT but will soon upgrade to a 21".
