Hi

Sorry if im posting this in the wrong place

can someone tell me if my system wood be able to run doom 3

XP PRO
P4 1.8 Mhz
1.25GB of Ram
PowerColor ATI Radeon 9800XT 256MB

also will it be able to run it at the top settings?

Thanks

yes it will, and welcome to [h]...but please use the search button, you're the 5 millionth person to ask this. and your gonna get flamed for it.

yes it will run the game, but not at top settings, prob 1024x768 with medium or high settings is what i would see it running smoothly.

That is the weakest point of your system. You will be cpu limited , but you still should be able to run @ like 1024x768 med quality no problem. Also as Dillusion said use the search button next time, you can usually get an answer to your question that way. Welcome to [H] :)

Why do you guys have to make new members feel unwelcome let alone embarrasing yourselves....

Your system will run Doom. I have 2.4 GHZ with a 9000 Pro and I can run it on 1024x768 medium quality no problem. When you have the $$$, I would upgrade the processor.

question beat to death, but that' s ok, your system will definitly not run doom1 let alone doom 3, haha, of course it'll run it

lol... top settings. Naw most likely not, it's a big goal to shoot for. Especially on an older system (except the video card) with such a newer game. If you can and don't mind, i'd suggest overclocking that CPU. I heard 1.8's overclock really well. You would probably notice a considerable gain from that if it doesn't run well stock. You could probably get medium settings at 800x600 I would think. But everyone is different and playable framerate is different for everyone :)

jeez, a lot of newbie bashing FROM newbies..

really now.. why all of a sudden its 32 posts a day?. try some content....

yeah. medium settings given the CPU. The nice thing about Doom3 it's an awesome game/experience even if you have a low end system. ID Software did a great job at making it scalable.

I think your system will run doom 3. My cousin has a P4 1.8GHz, 512 mb ram, Ti4600 he runs it 1024x768x32, medium settings, AA off. Runs pretty smooth he says. I hope hes not bullsh!tting me lol

one of my friend's gf3's just fried so he bougth a 9800pro 256mb... with a p4 1.5ghz and 512mb of SDR ram... he ran 1024x768 @ high quality, and it was very playable except for occasional stutter and tearing.

I was surprised a 2 year old 1.5ghz ran so well, on a mere 9800pro!

so yeah, you got it in the bag

oh, btw, get the 4.9 catalyst driver betas, they really help the last gen cards..

Doom3 is MUCH more GPU dependant than it is CPU dependant!

So forget about upgrading your CPU for Doom3, it's the GPU that does the trick! ;)

No, your computer will not run the game. At all.

i agree, you definetly need a geforce 4 m4400 pci to run doom 3 at acceptable settings

Yeah your system will run the game. Albeit not too too greatly. But you should be able to pull off decent framerate in 1024 medium.

Hey fishie, fellow NSian?!

Hehe, my gf has the same system as you hello21, except she only has 256 MB RAM and she (temporarily) has my BFG 6800 GT OC. Apart from the lack of RAM making Doom 3 jutter occasionally (opening a door to a new room for example), it flies along at 1024x768 with all the bells and whistles on (high quality textures too). It's blatantly obvious the video card is CPU limited though, so I expect you'll get great results too. When Doom 3 does its settings detection it gives me "low" at 800x600. It obviously isn't as intelligent as one might hope.

If you want a cheap, bang for buck upgrade, my advice is get an 865 or 875 mobo and a 2.4 GHz Northwood & OC (just the chip, not the rest of the system) to 3 GHz. Very cheap and it'll whoop your old comp's behind.

(PS: I can't play Doom 3 on my own any more - it's too damned scary)

Thanks guys for the replys does anyone no what settings i should be it on to get the very best out of the game

Start by using the auto-detect feature under the System sub menu. Then start playing and tweaking the settings until you get the most candy for the least lag.

god forbid you just install the game and find the most playable settings yourself...blah

What confuses me is that people that have almost the same specs as me say they get what they want at medium quality at 1024. I have mine on high at 1024, and i'm gettin 30-50 FPS, depending on the area. Is this some strange flaw? I mean, my CPU isn't amazing at any length, my RAM sucks ballz, and my video card is pretty good. But i do get occasional lag, which is probly my answer. What do u other ppl get with medium quality and around the same specs as me? sorry to hack ur forum dude, im lazy, and i'm sure this has been asked, so don't flame me. sorry
