Will my PSU be sufficient enough?

*** Current specs are in sig ***

I am planning to buy a 320GB Western Digital SATA II hard drive to REPLACE my 40gb maxtor. I am also planning to buy an ASUS A8N-E motherboard and eVGA 7900GT CO graphics card.

My question is, will my Antec TruePower 430P (430watt) PSU be sufficient enough to power my PC?

According to this http://www.extreme.outervision.com/index.jsp it will BUT my 12v rail really concerns me. It says the minimum for a 12v is 24A for high end graphics cards but my PSU is only 20A maximum.

If you know what you are talking about then please help me, guesses are no good to me, I need the truth.

thanks for any help

*** Addition information - I have a CDRW and DVDRW and 2 case fans.

I had a 420 wat enermax noisetaker, and after I swapped out my A8v and 6800gt and went to a asus a8n5x and 7900gtx, the enermax was struggling,,,during cold boots i couldn't get the system to power so I had to upgrade....atleast 480 watts with over 30 amps on the +12

Can anyone confirm this?

From what you said, it looks like I need a new PSU. Can you recommend me a good 500w + PSU? Cheap but good.

I ran an overclocked a64 with an overclocked 6800gt (uses more power than a 7900gt), DFU LP-UT mb for a long time on an Antec SL350 supply with a paultry 16a on the 12v rail (using a 20->24 pin converter). Don't trust the online calculators, they seem to be advertisements for power supply companies. Anandtech and silentpcreview have articles detailing actual current draw of typical systems. Very few single graphics card systems draw more than 200w combined under load. Here is one such table of typical systems. 16A x 12V = 192W.

The bottom line is that if you are not running two graphics cards, most quality power supplies will be more than adequate. Don't be fooled by marketing.

If you do feel the need to upgrade, Seasonic, FSP, Antec, and others make high efficiency models (>80%) which will save you money in the long run, and run quieter and colder since less energy is being converted into waste heat.

That doesn't really hide the fact that he doesn't have enough +12V amperage to run his setup. He doesn't even have a 24-pin ATX connection. A new power supply doesn't have to be expensive. A TruePower II 430W would be more than sufficient.

Power supply calculators that output only watts are not to be trusted...

OK at the moment, I will be getting an Antec Truepower 2.0 550Watt PSU but are there better PSUs for the same price?

I think I read the efficiency wasnt very good on this PSU. I have tried to look on Google but can't find anything. Can someone tell me the efficiency of this PSU?

Don't forget I was running a 2.6ghz a64 and a oc'd 6800gt off a16A supply! Silentpcreview has some really good reviews of power supplies (efficiency and noise are always tested, and they test the supply to its max rated output). Go here and read up. I would recommend either a FSP400-60gln, Seasonic SS12-380/430, or SS-400ht, depending on your preference. I'm not sure whether the 380 comes with a pcie connector.

Antec Truepower supplies are quality, and will be more than adequate for your application. Even their lowest price Smartpower series will produce excellent results, albeit with lower efficiency and more noise than other models. Make sure whatever you purchase has a 24 pin connect, and pcie connector(s).

I had good luck with a 20-24 pin adapter, and double molex-pcie adapter with my Antec SL350, but ymmv of course. I'm much happier with my fsp400-60gln though, it's very quiet, and it was inexpensive ($45.50 at ewiz.com, use froggle for lowest price). If I had to do things over, I would just get a new supply in the first place, instead of paying for those two adapters.
