I just received my new Tyan K8E (S2865) mobo for my AMD Opteron 165 Dual Core. However, the bios of this board does not support dual core and needs to be flashed to the latest bios.

Will the board still boot up with the Opteron 165 in it? Or do I have to swap a single core CPU in it for it to boot up?

It *should* boot up, and report an Unknown CPU. If it doesn't, you'll have to use a single-core CPU first..

does the mobo not support dual cores or the bios? Most boards do support them with a bios update. If you do not have the latest bios it will still work, i most cases, you simply will only register 1 core.

you'll be good to go. When installing the chip make certain that the bios has ACPI enabled and download and install the AMD dual core optimizer software from AMD. The board will boot. It shouldn't give you any problems.
